How to Choose the Best VPN for Everyday Use
When choosing a VPN there are several factors to consider. With so many VPN services available it can be hard to sift through all the choices. Many VPN review sites waste time talking about things that don’t matter to the everyday VPN customer.
We think it’s better to simplify the choices and focus on the most important factors, including speed, privacy, security, unblocking, and most important – TRUST. After all, none of this stuff matters if you can’t trust the company behind the product.
Now let’s talk about why every person on the Internet needs a VPN.
The Three Main Reasons You Need a VPN:
- Unblock content and defeat censorship – nobody should block your access to information or restrict your speech.
- Keep your browsing history and personal data private.
- Stay secure on public WiFi.
There are several other use cases for VPN, including remote work, getting better deals when shopping online, defeating ISP throttling, and more. Whatever your reason, we’ll help you find the right VPN.
The Five Primary Rating Criteria for our VPN Reviews:
- Trust – the company behind the service
- Privacy – how the service protects you and your data
- Security – the security protocols and process for their network and applications
- Unblocking – the ability to give you unfettered access to content and information
- Speed – how the service performs when streaming, downloading, video conferencing, and browsing the web
In addition to these factors, we look at added features, price to value, reliability, country jurisdiction, support, ease-of-use, and more.
Let’s talk a little more about our review process.
The VPN.Expert Review Process
We start by purchasing the product (with our own funds). We don’t ask for free trials or demos because we want to know what the purchase experience is like from top to bottom. What payment methods are expected, what data do they collect, and if there’s any hiccups how do they help.
Once we purchase the product we install the device on all popular platforms and devices, this includes Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, FireTV, routers, and more. We do a deep dive on the entire installation process so we can see how easy (or difficult) it is to get the VPN software up and running.
After we’ve finished installing the apps and services across our devices, we spend time putting each service to task. We check compatibility with streaming services and websites, run speed tests, verify there are no data leaks, and make sure nothing breaks as we use the services day to day – just like you would.
We test each service for a minimum of one month before performing a product review. We want to ensure that every product we test performs consistently over time, which is why we update our reviews monthly. We also stay on top of new product releases so you know what you’re reading on our site is current.
Before publishing the team comes together to compare notes. We also scan the web, reading real customer reviews, expert editorial opinions, and other reliable third-party information. In some cases we may reach out to a company for comment on something we’ve read to get clarification.
Why You Should Listen to Us
Here at VPN.expert we take the guesswork out of choosing a VPN provider. We’ve been reviewing and analyzing VPNs for over a decade. Our founder (Jeremy Palmer) spent over six years working every day in the VPN industry. He spent time at IPVanish, StrongVPN, and Encrypt.me. In those six years Jeremy worked with engineering and sales teams as VP of Product and Marketing.
But most importantly, we’re everyday VPN customers, just like you. We know what works and what doesn’t because we’re VPNs all day every day.
How We Keep the Site Running
